Visiting Frida Kahlo’s House + Mexico City

Take me back to Mexico please!

I know you’re probably like why would you go to a monks monastery in Mexico? Why not head over to Cabo, Cancun, or one of those vacations where you sip on margaritas in a tropical beach? And the truth is, I could have, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to have some peace and quiet somewhere I could be surrounded by nature and do meditation with strangers. I know it may sound crazy to you, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. I think it’s important for us to take care of our mind and feed good energy into it – this was definitely a good step into that direction.

Part of the reason why I also went to Mexico was to celebrate my love for Frida Kahlo. This woman IS still so inspiring after death. I suppose it’s because she’s such a warrior and a feminist that gives us women hope that we can accomplish things on our own despite what society sets out for us. There were a few tears shed while I was inside her house. What really touched me was how much you can still feel her presence there, specially in her paintings or the wood carving on her bed frame spelling the name ‘Diego.’ I think that’s what I loved most about Frida. How much she loved. She could have painted the world, but instead she dedicated her life to paint pain. Sometimes it’s hard describing how we feel, but yet she made it so easy to see pain in a picture. I was completely astonished and I definitely plan on going back. If you want to visit Mexico, make her one of your stops. You will walk out of there ready to take on the world.

I’m sorry I don’t have much description as to what I did during my visit with the monks, but just picture yourself meditating in a field of fruits with a monk dressed in brown ropes. Did you do it? Yes? Well, there you go.

Thank you for reading, until next time. xo
